Hudson Valley food pantries give help and hope
Food pantries around the Hudson Valley are scrambling to give Thanksgiving meals to needy families and some charitable groups say they're having their busiest season ever. People to People, a Nanuet-based food pantry, says it has already distributed more than 1,500 turkeys this week. It still is looking to provide 2,000 more families with all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. Diane Serratore, executive director of People to People, says demand for help this year has reached a record high. Over at the Cultural Arts Center in Spring Valley, 300 turkeys were given out within 10 minutes today. Some people were turned away and told to come back tomorrow.
