Hudson Valley prepares for another storm
Tropical Storm Hanna may hit the Hudson Valley this weekend, but residents and officials say they?re prepared for any weather threats it may bring.
The Rockland County Health Department recommends having a three-day supply of water and canned food, a battery-powered radio and a flashlight. Irene Antonequia, of Pearl River , says she?s ready.
?I have water. I have enough food in my pantry to eat for a week,? she says.
Aside from food and drink issues, a powerful storm could also knock out power in Rockland County, much like what happened in the aftermath of Gustav in the south. Mike Donovan, spokesperson for Orange and Rockland Utilities, says the company has a storm plan.
?We invest $66 million a year in fortification of the system,? he says. ?Putting up heavier lines, new substations that have greater capacity, that sort of thing.? He says restoring power in the event of a major storm will be simple.
?We plan our repair work based on doing the greatest good for the greatest number of people in the shortest amount of time,? Donovan says.
A spokesperson for the Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services says they have surveyed resources available for each town and village in Rockland County and that plans are in place should Hanna head their way.
Residents are instructed to plan for the worst, just in case.
