One Hudson Valley resident is paying special tribute to fallen heroes this year by teaming up with a national organization to sponsor veterans’ wreaths at a local cemetery.
"I just think it's important to pay our respects and thank them for what they did,” says Patricia Peltier, who organized the partnership.
Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 1,400 locations across the United States, at sea and abroad.
Peltier teamed up with the organization this National Wreaths Across America Day, to make sure that every veteran, including her father-in-law, resting in Hamptonburgh Cemetery in Campbell Hall had a sign of love during the holidays.
Dozens of volunteers came together this weekend to lay wreaths next to their graves.
"As long as I'm able to do it, I will be the coordinator for this cemetery,” says Peltier. “I'm honored to do it."
Volunteers say that the hope is that the memory of the nation's soldiers, sailors and Marines will live on each year when someone lays down a wreath in their honor.
