Hudson Valley residents go the extra mile to top off their tanks
The soaring gas prices are causing many Hudson Valley residents to cross the border to New Jersey to get a break at the pumps.
While many residents say the prices of gas in Rockland and Orange counties are better than New York city, they still make the trip to New Jersey to fill up. New Jersey has no local sales tax on gas, so the prices are lower.
Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun (R-Blooming Grove) hopes a proposal to lift the local sales tax during the summer next year will win support. Calhoun says reducing the sales tax portion of gas would be good for tourism.
