Hudson Valley voters to decide fate of school budgets
Residents in Rockland and Orange counties headed to the polls Tuesday to vote on school spending plans as well as board of education races.
Budgets and candidates are up for vote in eight Rockland County districts and 17 Orange County districts. While many residents are facing a tax increase, one area that may be hard hit is Highland Falls. Taxpayers in Highland Falls could face a 24 percent tax hike unless the federal government kicks in additional school aid.
If a budget is voted down, school districts can either hold a second vote or adopt an austerity budget.
