YONKERS - One of the world's largest cranes has almost completed its voyage to help build the new Tappan Zee Bridge.

The crane, originally known as the "Left Coast Lifter" has arrived in New York waters. It has been renamed the "I Lift NY."

The crane helped replace the eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. It embarked from San Francisco on Dec. 22, travelled through the Panama Canal, and entered the Hudson River this morning.

The crane will dock in New Jersey so crews can inspect it. It is expected to go into service in the coming months and will assist Tappan Zee Constructors build the new span. With a boom length of 328 feet, weighing 992 short tons and having a 1,800 short tons lift capacity, it is the largest barge crane ever used on the U.S. West Coast.

The "I Lift NY" will also be used to dismantle the existing bridge.
