Hundreds of people showed up at St. Anthony?s Church in Nanuet Wednesday for one final goodbye to Army National Guard Captain Philip Esposito who was killed last week in Iraq.

As Esposito was laid to rest, the cause of his death remains under investigation. Initially the military told Esposito?s family he was killed during a mortar attack. Now circumstances surrounding the death have caused the Army to conduct a criminal investigation.

At the time of his death, Esposito was a company commander for the 42nd Infantry Divisions headquarters company. He was memorialized on Wednesday with full military honors and will posthumously receive a bronze star.

Also killed in the attack was First Lieutenant Lou Allen who worked as a science teacher at Baker High School in Tuxedo. Mourners gathered at the Lippincott Funeral Home on Main Street in Chester Wednesday for his wake. Related Story
