Hundreds of Bronx and city teachers are reportedly losing their jobs after failing to get the proper certification.
According to a New York Post report, the Department of Education has issued pink slips to 825 teachers with temporary certifications who failed to get the proper certification papers over the last two years. The Post reports that under a state mandate last year, uncertified teachers are prohibited from working in the city school system unless they are on track to earn certification.
The Department of Education reportedly notified the teachers approximately seven times since January that they needed to fulfill the requirements. Many of the teachers who were fired had taught science and math.
