HV firefighters, cops mourn fallen Tarrytown worker
Friends, family and dozens of police officers and firefighters flooded the streets of Tarrytown today to say their final farewells to a veteran DPW worker and volunteer firefighter who died while at work on Labor Day.
Anthony Ruggiero was born and raised in Tarrytown, where he worked for the Tarrytown DPW for 29 years. Ruggiero was also a volunteer firefighter, and was honored as such at the Transfiguration Church in Tarrytown this morning.
"It's a big brotherhood, whether you're a career firefighter, or a volunteer firefighter, it's the same turnout for both," says Robert Reid, of the Ardsley Fire Department.
Ruggiero died Monday after descending into a manhole that was filled with toxic fumes. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters.
