Yorktown Heights-based IBM plans to help scientists fight COVID-19 through its high-powered supercomputers.
Dario Gil, director of IBM Research, is spearheading a global consortium to share coronavirus data worldwide.
Artificial intelligence and supercomputers are one aspect to research as they can measure compliance like mask wearing and social distancing.
The data can produce a snapshot of how the COVID-19 pandemic may look in six months.
"We take those decisions and how they connect to future incident rates, future cases. As we gather more statistics, we can see what may happen based on the choices we make as a society of how we behave,” says Gil.
The director also tells News 12 the data has the ability to help researchers navigate future pandemics.
