Union workers at the Indian Point power plant say they are preparing to strike if they don't get a new contract.

They held a dry run Tuesday in case they decide to strike.

"This should have been squared away a long time ago. We shouldn't be here at the 11th hour getting this figured out," says Entergy employee Juan Cintron.

The utility workers are represented by Local 12. They are seeking a contract that includes continued medical benefits and a wage increase.

Many are also concerned about their future since the nuclear power plant is slated to shut down at the beginning of 2020. The new contract would cover workers until 2022.

"This is a negotiation unlike any other one. We're trying to get training money. We're trying to get a lot of things to give these people hope," says Craig Dickson, Local 12's business agent.

In a statement, a spokesperson tells News 12 that Entergy is continuing negotiations to an agreement that benefits the workers. In the event of labor action, Entergy says a contingency plan is in place to continue safe operation of the plant.
