Yonkers city officials, members of the clergy and residents gathered at the Unity Fountain at City Hall for an interfaith candlelight vigil in memory of the people killed in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting.

A total of 11 people were gunned down last Saturday during worship services at the Tree of Life synagogue.

The alleged gunman, 46-year-old Robert Bowers, is in jail. He has been indicted on 44 criminal counts including hate crimes. Bowers has pleaded not guilty.

Yonkers officials say the interfaith candlelight vigil was an opportunity for residents to mourn and remember the victims as a community.

"It's a tragedy. It truly is. And when you have a tragedy like that you need to band together as a community, and this is a part of that,” says Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.
