A Poughkeepsie man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing an officer with a screw driver.

Investigators say they were called to Smith Street Saturday for reports of a man experiencing mental health problems.

They say when they arrived, 32-year-old Jalil Smith went after the officer.

Smith was tased when a violent struggle ensued between him and the officers.

One officer was taken to a hospital and treated for a stab wound to the neck.

He has since been released.
