Jaffee to return to Albany after primary win
Incumbent Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee is ready to head back to Albany after winning the Democratic nomination in the 95th Assembly District in the primaries Tuesday with 85 percent of the vote.
Jaffee was vying for a second term against Ramapo Town Clerk Christian Sampson. Jaffee says she is hoping to continue her fight for property tax relief, boost funding for education and increase unemployment insurance.
"I just want to thank the voters for their trust and confidence that last night it was so overwhelming,? she says. ?I appreciate that, it gives me the opportunity to go back and work on their behalf, and I'm touched by it."
Following Jaffee?s victory, her opponent offered words of praise for the assemblywoman in spite of his defeat.
"She is a good Democrat,? Sampson says. ?I look forward to working with her in anyway that I can."
Sampson has been the Ramapo town clerk for the past 12 years. He says that although the loss in the primaries has been upsetting, he is now moving past it.
?I'm still the town clerk, I?m still committed to government service and I?ll continue to do that," Sampson says.
In the meantime, Jaffe is getting ready to head back to the state capital since she doesn't have a GOP opponent in the upcoming November election.
"I have to admit that it gives me an opportunity to really move with many of the issues that are important to the residents and focus on the work of the Assembly and focus on my work in response to community issues."
