Jail just the start for Suffern fake ID suspect
A Suffern man accused of making and selling phony Social Security cards to illegal immigrants is under arrest and facing deportation.
According to police, 46-year-old Julio Dominguez-Zamudio made fake Social Security and alien resident cards and sold them to illegal immigrants in Suffern. The yearlong undercover investigation involved the county drug task force and federal agencies because fake Social Security cards were involved. The Suffern police chief says crime involving forged documents makes even routine police work a lot more difficult because it makes it tougher to properly identify people.
Dominguez-Zamudio is charged with 19 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, which is a felony. He is being held in the Rockland County Jail on $25,000 bail. If Dominguez-Zamudio posts bail, he will be turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to his illegal status.
