Members of the JCC are calling for a more in-depth vetting process for employees after a former staff member  was accused of possessing child pornography.
Benjamin Bojemski, a camp counselor for the JCC's River Friends Day Camp program in Tarrytown, was arraigned July 20 on multiple charges related to child pornography.
The 20-year-old Croton resident was a graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School.
The executive director of the Jewish Community Center put out a statement to his members saying that all staff hires go through background checks. This includes clearance from the New York State Sex Offender registry for everyone who works with children.
Rabbi Andrew Ergas, the JCC’s executive director wrote, “We take our responsibility to our members and community very seriously: in particular as a provider of services to children, we value the trust placed in us."
Members of the JCC say they are still concerned over the recent allegations.
"When you're dealing with kids you have to get to know someone a little bit better. There's nothing you can do online that's going to prevent something like this," says JCC member Nick Arduino.
Bojemski was charged with possessing and promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child.
