Police think a driver crashed after heading into oncoming traffic on Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers.

YONKERS - A wrong-way crash in Yonkers left one man dead and one woman injured Sunday night.

The accident happened on Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers, just south of Odell Avenue. Denis Delango, who lives nearby, says he drove past the crash aftermath and saw one car had ended up on the sidewalk and the other was completely spun around.

Police say a black Honda, driven by John Nethercott of Port Chester, was going the wrong way on Saw Mill River Road before it crashed into a silver BMW. Nethercott was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 26-year-old Florida woman, was taken to the hospital with a leg injury.

Police are waiting on test results to see if drugs or alcohol may have been a factor. Vehicle malfunction is also being investigated as a cause.
