Jose Saraza, of Middletown, injured by fallen glass at Anthony's Custom Closets in Wallkill

WALLKILL - A Middletown man is recovering in the hospital after a freak accident involving falling glass early this morning in Wallkill.

Jose Saraza, 25, was working at Anthony's Custom Closets on Enterprise Place when just before 5 a.m., police say hundreds of pounds of tempered glass sheets crashed on top of him. Co-worker Raven Ackerly says Saraza was sifting through the panels, which are used for shower doors, when all the panels fell on him.

Saraza was flown to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie with serious internal injuries. He's expected to be OK.

The Wallkill Building Department and federal workplace safety inspectors are looking into the accident.
