Kleiner: Flooding in Rockland is a priority
Democratic candidate for Rockland County executive Thom Kleiner announced a plan Monday to alleviate flooding countywide if he is elected to the position.
Kleiner, who was joined by several colleagues on the banks of the Hackensack River, says his plan consists of tax incentives for installing porous pavements, green roofs and rain barrels, the completion of a county drainage study started in 2007, upgrading county buildings and seeking grants to accomplish renovations.
Kleiner says many towns have taken the initiative to prevent the Hackensack River from overflowing and to control drainage in the area, but the county has not. Kleiner is challenging incumbent County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef.
