CHESTNUT RIDGE - Police are investigating a mother in the sudden death of a 5-year-old boy from Rockland County.

Garnett Spears had elevated levels of sodium in his body when he died last month at the Westchester Medical Center. Police want to know whether his mother, Lacey Spears, may have had anything to do with it.

The boy reportedly suffered from digestive problems. His mother chronicled his health battles on Facebook. She used social media to report on his medical crisis in the hospital and her emotional reaction to it.

The question has come up as to whether the mother may have harmed her son to get sympathy for herself, a psychiatric disorder also known as M√ľnchausen syndrome by proxy.

As part of the investigation, police have searched Lacey Spears' home and seized her computer.

She has reportedly hired a lawyer and moved out of state.
