A number of local Congress members were at the home of a White Plains homeowner Thursday to call for a repeal of the $10,000 cap on state and local tax deductions.

Homeowner Ayeshah Parker says the SALT cap is financially crushing her family.

"Before this cap went into place. we were able to deduct maybe about $17,000. Our income has grown, but my husband and I combined ... we're not rich," says Parker.

Before the Trump administration instituted the SALT tax cap in 2017, there was no limit to the amount that could be deducted.

Mondaire Jones was at Parker's house on Thursday. He is co-sponsoring legislation to repeal the cap.

"We know that in December 2017 when that $10,000 limitation was imposed, it took money directly out of the pockets of folks in Westchester and Rockland counties," he said.

Jones say the average SALT deduction for a Westchester resident in 2017 was just over $36,000. For a Rockland County resident, it was just over $22,000.
