GREENBURGH - Students in kindergarten and first grade at Lee F. Jackson Elementary School in Greenburgh participated in a spelling bee at the school.

Community leaders served as judges this morning for the contest, which is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Patricia Simone, the school's principal, says getting children involved in the spelling bee at a young age helps prepare them for the future.

Greenburgh students from kindergarten up to eighth grade are participating in spelling bees. Winners from the older grades have a chance to head to Washington, D.C. for the finals.
