Westchester legislators are getting ready to vote on a bill that would protect immigrants in the county.
Advocates of the bill met with county legislator David Gelfarb at a church in Port Chester on Wednesday evening. He affirmed his stance to vote for the Immigration Protection Act.
The bill would protect immigrants living in Westchester by keeping county funds away from federal immigration authorities
Immigrants who attended the meeting say they are hopeful the bill will pass. "We are hard workers, working maybe 10 hours a day and we are looking for protection," says Angel Yupangyi, an Ecuadorian immigrant.
The bill will be up for a vote next Monday.
