Local farms are beginning to recover after heavy rain hit their fields.
News 12’s Ben Nandy was at Pawelski Farms outside Goshen to see how they are rebounding from the weather.
Chris Pawelski says the rain turned some of his and his neighbors' fields into ponds. The water has made it impossible to use farming equipment and continue growing their honey dew melons, squash and cucumbers.
“It's going to take a period of time to dry out. Because it's so wet like this, it can't be plowed. If I were to in there with a tractor to try and dry it out, I would basically make a mess,” he said.
Pawelski says going forward, he's hoping for drier weather this week and eventually he's going to start hand digging a trench in the field.
