As the Hudson Valley marked Veterans Day with parades and tributes to American servicemen and women Tuesday, Iraq war veteran Tim Young spent the day remembering his fallen friends.

Young, 24, says that for him every day is Veterans Day.

?Not a day goes by that I don't think about my close friends that were killed, and the other millions [of] men and women that have sacrificed their lives for our freedom,? he says.

Young, who has served two tours of duty in Iraq, has been home for 11 months and is still struggling to find a job. He also has his war injuries to deal with -- a metal rod and screws hold his ankle together after he was hit during a mortar attack. He was wounded during his first tour in 2005, but Young says he decided to go back.

?I wanted to serve my country, something greater than myself,? he says.

Like other soldiers returning home from war, Young says it is not about receiving the fanfare. Instead, he says, what veterans like to hear the most is a simple ?thank you.?

?If there weren't people that were willing to enlist,? he says. ?We wouldn't be sitting here today.?

There is a possibility Young will be called for a third tour of duty overseas, and he says he would go with no questions asked.
