As the debate in Washington heats up over President Barack Obama's stimulus package, a local member of Congress wants to ensure health care gets its fair share.
Democratic Rep. Nita Lowey, who represents parts of Westchester and Rockland counties such as White Plains, promoted an information technology initiative Monday she thinks can benefit hospitals.
Lowey visited White Plains Hospital Center to push some of the proposed $825 billion stimulus plan. Officials at the hospital say they have already embraced information technology and seen its benefits.
"Nearly 90 percent of our physicians are using this technology to better manage patients here at White Plains Hospital," says Dr. Michael Palumbo.
Obama is hoping to have a final version of the stimulus package approved by Congress and on his desk for signature by President's Day, Feb. 16.
