Major N.J. sting reaches Monsey
A Rockland County developer and three New Jersey mayors were among the more than 40 people arrested Thursday as part of a sweeping federal corruption probe.
Prosecutors say Moshe Altman, of Monsey, is charged with conspiracy to commit extortion and money laundering. Also arrested were the mayors of Hoboken, Secaucus and Ridgefield in New Jersey and a slew of other elected officials from the Garden State.
Prosecutors say their investigation was prompted by an alleged international money-laundering ring that dealt in everything from black market body parts to knock-off designer handbags.
Federal agents say a 10-year investigation culminated with the arrests Thursday.
