Police have arrested a suspect who they say fatally shot a man outside a school in Edenwald Wednesday morning.
Police say the 43-year-old suspect exited a U-Haul truck and fired two shots at the victim. One of the bullets struck the 45-year-old man in the head, killing him. Police say the suspect then got back in the truck, fired a few more shots and drove off. The U-Haul was found abandoned a few blocks away.
The shooting prompted a "shelter-in" to be ordered at P.S. 112, forcing students and teachers to remain inside until police gave the all clear.
The shooting is the ninth murder investigated in the 47th Precinct this year, compared to last year's total of one. Police say they will be deploying additional resources within the precinct after speaking with the police commissioner and borough commander.
