A Bronx man was taken into police custody in Fort Lee, New Jersey Wednesday after he led cops on a high-speed car chase, racking up a laundry list of crimes in the process.
Police say Alexis Santiago used false identification and phony credit information to purchase a new car at the Chrysler Dealership in Nanuet. The dealership notified Clarkstown after realizing there was a mistake with Santiago's information. Police showed up at the dealership Wednesday along with Santiago, who returned to pick up his registration not knowing police were waiting. When he spotted police, he hopped in the new car and led police on a chase through two states.
Santiago is facing 16 charges in two states, including attempted murder for trying to run over a police officer in New Jersey. He is also wanted in the Bronx on weapons charges. Santiago is being held at the Bergen County Jail.
