Man struck, injured by car in hit-and-run on West Second Street in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON - Police in Mount Vernon are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck a pedestrian, sending him to the hospital.

The incident occurred at around 1 a.m. Sunday in front 103 West Second St. 

Police say the victim was with a group of people leaving a party at the Macedonia Community Center when he was struck. They say the driver fled the scene toward South Ninth Avenue.

The area was closed to traffic for about an hour as police combed the scene for evidence.

The car is described as a dark gray or silver late-model Dodge Challenger with Maryland license plates.

Police say the victim was taken to a local hospital in serious, but stable condition.
