A man who tried to elude justice by fleeing pleaded guilty Monday in a New City courtroom to killing a teen.

Khalfani Sorel, 21, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of 17-year-old David Olmeda-Firestone. Sorel also pleaded guilty to robbery in a separate 2004 incident. Sorel is expected to serve 30 years in prison for both crimes. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 2.

Olmeda-Firestone was found shot to death last May in a car at the corner of Dickenson and Hall avenues in Nyack. Police suspected the crime was the result of a drug deal. Authorities say Sorel, of Bardonia, fled to North Carolina. He was later extradited to Rockland County. The victim's relatives say while nothing will bring the victim back, they're glad justice was served.
