South Nyack Mayor Bonnie Christian is concerned over the possibility of a new walking and bike path along the new Tappan Zee Bridge being open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"There's no commercial places for anybody to go. So there really is no reason why anybody should be commuting here at 3 a.m.,” she says.
The New York State Thruway Authority, which owns and operates the bridge, recently put a survey on its website asking people when they would like to see the shared-use path open each day: Dawn to dusk, 5 a.m. to 11p.m., or 24/7.
The new shared-use path would run alongside another trail in South Nyack called the Esposito Trail.
No decision has been made as yet on the hours of operation of the new shared-use path. But Mayor Christian hopes the Thruway Authority considers the opinion of the residents in her village before moving forward.
Construction on the new walking and bike path on the new Tappan Zee Bridge is expected to start next year.
