The wall of a two story house that was being renovated on Middle Street collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured, but a family living next door was forced to evacuate.
The 200-year-old home was gutted inside and had the side wall and roof removed after structural problems were discovered months ago. All that had been standing was the rear brick wall and front wall. It was the front wall that was being supported by plywood braces, which collapsed when the braces gave way. All that is left now is a pile of wood, mortar and plywood. It will be several months before the family living next door will be able to move back.
