Middletown dips into reserve funds for more salt
The blast of storms this winter has forced the city of Middletown to dip into its reserve fund to pay for more salt.
The city needed to dig up another $100,000 after responding to the heavy snowfall. Middletown Mayor Marlinda Duncanson says the city had slashed its Department of Public Works budget in half in hopes of saving money.
"You can never predict what the weather's going to bring," says Duncanson. "We had hopes it was going to cover us through the winter, but unfortunately you can't just predict the weather."
Despite going over budget, Middletown officials say they don't expect to make any additional cutbacks this year through layoffs.
