East Ramapo school budget issues put BOCES programs in jeopardy

Parents in the East Ramapo School District are concerned their children may lose access to special needs and vocational programs over the district's failure to pay BOCES.

BOCES says the district owes about $5 million. It says that it can still serve more than 250 students in the program, but is unsure for how much longer.

The state has ordered the district to balance its budget and pay what it owes by Jan. 16. If it fails to pay by then, the state could eventually remove school board members and take over the district.
