Mom jailed, accused of fire threat against daughter's school in Haverstraw
A Spring Valley mother is behind bars after police say she claimed she was going to burn down Haverstraw Middle School. Police arrested 37-year-old Josephine Jones-Staufford Wednesday and charged her with making a terroristic threat, a felony. They say she called the Haverstraw police station Tuesday night and talked about lighting the school on fire and burning it to the ground. Jones-Staufford actually has a daughter who attends the school, but does not have custody of her. Police said she told them, "If anyone walks through the fire, it'll be my daughter. The rest will burn." She was arraigned Wednesday in Haverstraw Town Court and then sent to the Rockland County Jail. The judge also issued an order of protection and told her to stay away from the school. The school district said it will do all it can to protect the safety of its students.
