Some shoppers in Nyack avoided the Black Friday craziness at the big chains and malls this year, opting to shop calmly at Mom and Pop stores on the city's Main Street.
Customers traded long lines and discounts for relaxed browsing and unique items.
"When you come into our store, you find things you won't see in other stores," says Gladys Foster, owner of Unique Boutique. "That's what people are looking for, something different."
