Rockland Community College and health officials deny claims that a student was diagnosed with a resistant form of staph infection despite statements to the contrary from the student?s mother.

Debbie Vobroucek, of Monroe, says her daughter was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital over the weekend and was treated for Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus or MRSA. Vobroucek says her daughter developed an infection on her earlobes.

The county health department and RCC say they were unable to confirm the girl had MRSA because her tests came back negative.

Vobroucek, however, says doctors told her the tests came back negative because they were taken incorrectly.

Despite the inconsistency in stories, the school sent e-mails to students informing them how to prevent contracting the infection.
