NEW ROCHELLE - Police say a Monroe College student was rescued this morning after falling into the Long Island Sound in New Rochelle.

Officials say 20-year-old Kendrick Calvaire fell through the ice at the New Rochelle Marina on Davenport Avenue.

They say Calvaire had been sitting on a wall and listening to music when he slipped and fell into the water. He had just left a party where he had allegedly been drinking.

Residents of the apartment buildings across the street heard his cries for help at 2:30 a.m. and called 911.

Police say it took two officers to rescue the student.

Calvaire was taken to Montefiore Hospital, treated for hypothermia, and sent back home to his dorm.
