MONROE - A freshman college student from Monroe was found dead last Thursday in his dorm room at SUNY New Paltz.

University police say they got a 911 call that Eric Van de Laar was found not breathing and unresponsive. The investigation is ongoing, but police say they do not suspect foul play.

Van de Laar graduated from Monroe Woodbury High School in 2013. Principal David Bernsley says Van de Laar was a "wonderful" person who excelled in physics and geometry.
