Monroe Town Supervisor Sandy Leonard spoke out Friday about an alleged attack on a town councilman, calling it a "political stunt."
Councilman Harley Doles had accused Councilman Jim Rogers of attempting to shut him up during Tuesday's budget meeting and then attacking him for questioning what he calls secret meetings he was intentionally excluded from. Rogers was later arrested and charged with harassment.
"Undoubtedly, his conduct is an attempt to influence the electorate in the upcoming general town elections," Leonard said.
Neither Doles nor Rogers are up for re-election this year, but the town supervisor and two other council members are.
