Morristown National Historical Park uses photography to celebrate history, reintroduce for the future

Morristown National Historical Park's 90th anniversary is next year, and the park is using art to both celebrate that history and reintroduce the park to new audiences.
The park was the first designated national historical park in the country. It preserves and commemorates the 1779-1780 winter encampment of Gen. George Washington's Continental Army in Morristown.

The National Park Service commissioned photographer Xiomaro to create fine art photographs of the park’s key features: The Ford Mansion, Jockey Hollow and the Cross Estate Mansion/New Jersey Bridge area.
Xiomaro says the photos aim to "reintroduce the park to the rapidly changing global and statewide communities it serves in the 21st century."
The photo exhibit will be on display June 4 to July 31 at Jockey Hollow Visitor Center and Washington’s Headquarters Museum.
The park will also offer some in-person activities during June to mark the event:
  • June 4 - Opening reception at Jockey Hollow Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • June 11 - Photo walk along Jockey Hollow’s Wick Farm and trail from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • June 18 - Live concert and talk about photography’s connection with music from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m
