Mount Vernon community marks 1 year since fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Kayla Green

The 16-year-old high school cheerleader was stabbed to death in Mount Vernon on April 8, 2022 after a parade celebrating the boys basketball team state championship.

The family and friends of Kayla Green gathered in Mount Vernon Saturday night to mark one year since she was fatally stabbed.
A celebration of Green's life took place at Club-37 on South 5th Avenue.
The 16-year-old high school cheerleader was stabbed to death in Mount Vernon on April 8, 2022 after a parade that celebrated the boys basketball team state championship.
According to police, Green got into an argument with a 15-year-old cheerleader from a different team, who then attacked her and her friend. Green died on her way to the hospital.
The knife-wielding attacker, whose name was withheld by police due to her age, is now serving a prison sentence of three to nine years.
The event included a vigil in Green's memory as well as a performance by Green's father of a song that he wrote for her.
