The mayor said she blamed the flooding on the city's sewage system.
"This is really a failure of our regional storm water drainage system which gets overwhelmed when we have torrential rains like this, were seeing this weather-related incidents happen more often," she said.

"We are experiencing flooding due to todays storm on Farrell Ave due to high tide overflowing of the Hutchinson River and not the storm lines. The City of Mount Vernon is actively working with the NY State to do flood mitigation in that area," said Commissioner Damani Bush, of the Department of Public Works.
