The family of slain teenager Shomari Knox is offering a cash reward for tips about the person who killed the 19-year-old on Wednesday.
The family will reward a tipster with $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
While Knox?s family grieves over the sudden loss, Mount Vernon Police placed a command center on South 9th Avenue to keep a watchful eye on a community that has suffered seven homicides this year.
As police plan to redeploy the command center to another troubled spot of the town on Monday, one resident is troubled by the crime rate.
?I don?t think it?s safe in Mount Vernon anymore,? says Ally Mohammad.
Another community member doesn?t know how successful the efforts of the short-lived command post will be.
?It?s been going on for a long time. It?s not safe. My friend lives [nearby] and I get more worried by the day what?s going on,? says James Cleveland.
Despite the command center move, police continue to search for a gunman. Knox was driving a minivan when a masked shooter opened his door and killed him.
Friends still come by the scene of the murder where a memorial to Knox continues to grow. A wake and funeral is planned for Knox on Tuesday and Wednesday in Mount Vernon.
