Metro-North officials say that rail service will be mostly restored along the entire Port Jervis branch by sometime this December.
Train service has been replaced by buses ever since Hurricane Irene severely damaged the rails along the entire line in August.
Officials say that while rail service will be running during peak times after December, buses will occasionally replace trains while crews work to reduce future flooding.
All flood-mitigation work should be completed by fall 2012, according to officials.
