A Target in the Bronx has multiple employees out sick with coronavirus, and now it’s prompting other employees and lawmakers to take action.
This is all in an effort to keep customers and workers safe. “My biggest issue is that we had a handful of confirmed cases in the store, and it's taken them so long to provide us with information or do something about it,” said Abram Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is an employee at the Target in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx and says he has been calling out since Saturday.
Last week, he says he received a text message telling him that a fellow team member tested positive for COVID-19.
Six days after that employee was last in the store, the company confirmed to News 12 that two team members at the Throgs Neck location are now in quarantine, infected with the coronavirus.
State Sen. Luis Sepulveda took to social media to let constituents know about the Throgs Neck employees who tested positive. He says he went straight to the source before that.
“We sent them a letter, I believe it was Sunday. We had asked that they provide the PPE that they said they would. And we also asked that they inform the general public about people testing positive that work there,” said Sepulveda.
Target tells News 12 that masks and gloves are being provided to team members at the store and that Plexiglas partitions are installed at cash registers.
A spokesperson said in a statement, “After learning about positive cases, we also work quickly to deep clean and sanitize the store... Our top priority is the health and safety of our team members and guests."
Target is also reaching out to Sepulveda’s office to gather more information about his letter and address any concerns.
