A 25-year-old Brooklyn musician patiently recorded an anti-Semitic rant being shouted at him Tuesday on his cellphone and spoke to News 12 about the disturbing experience.
The incident occurred at a red light on Broadway in Monticello as the driver yelled out of his window at Isaac Bernath.
"This is a very common occurrence,” he told News 12. “I wasn't surprised, but I was glad I got it on video to expose it."
He posted it to Instagram for his followers to see and share.
The rant has sparked outrage among Jewish groups. Gary Siepser, with the Jewish Federation of Rockland, says the incident is a painful reminder of the past.
"Particularly disturbing for members of the Jewish community. We know our history. We know what this sort of mindless, stupid hate can lead to," says Siepser.
While Siepser hopes the now viral video will prompt change, Bernath says what it won't change is his opinion of those outside of his faith in Sullivan County.
"Most of the local people are amazing. They're the most chill, fun people," says Bernath.
