What started as a tree-trimming job turned into a scam on an elderly couple in Nanuet.
According to police, the couple was approached by a man last Friday who said he was hired by Pathmark to trim trees at a supermarket adjacent to their property. The man said he needed to cut down tree limbs on the couple?s property line. Police say the man asked to speak to the couple together in their back yard. He then got a phone call, told the couple it was his boss and quickly left.
Three days later, the couple discovered that $3,000 was missing from their home office. Pathmark says it never hired anyone to trim its trees. Clarkstown police are now looking for the man and his accomplice. Anyone who believes they fell victim to this scam or has information is asked to contact the Clarkstown Police Department at 845-639-5840.
