Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy led a contingent of Nassau County lawmakers to Massachusetts Monday for a firsthand look at some flood prevention measures.
A device like the New Bedford Hurricane Protection Barrier, which protects about 1,400 acres of land from flooding, could be used to protect Freeport, Kennedy says.
"We're looking for a way that we can prevent the flooding, rather than being resilient and rebuilding after," he says.
Nassau officials are looking into building storm gates along the South Shore.
